Polygraphs are easy to beat, just breathe steady, anticipate the question and convince yourself that your lie is 'the truth'. They can't detect lies, just nervousness.. we played with one in a Psych class I took in college and I blew people away with my ability to baffle the thing.

Is she insisting you submit to it? Then refuse to take it -- but also consider taking a long "vacation" and assess what you've done to arouse her suspicions in the first place.

Your grounds for refusal: There is no such thing as a "foolproof" lie detector. As paganguy says, the thing detects nervousness, not lies per se -- the underlying assumption being that liars are nervous when lying. I've read about serial killers who've beaten lie detectors because they have no consciences.

On the flip side -- 20/20 (believe John Stossel) did an expose, at least a decade ago, about employers relying more and more on polygraphs for employee applicant screening and to detect misconduct in the workplace. Setting up a false business (office setting), they brought in one polygrapher after another who was certain of his own/his machine's infallibility; stating that an expensive camera had been stolen (none had), they asked that all their "employees" be questioned, and confided their "suspicion" that "Bob" was the thief. Guess who the polygraphers "fingered" every time as the liar? Were I in your shoes, I'd use this example to argue that of course the ex-FBI agent will find you deceitful.

STUDY THIS!!! http://www.eccie.net/showthread.php?t=48854

Also -- ASSUME that she will at some point hire SOMEONE (if not the ex-FBI guy, then someone else) to conduct surveillance on you. Any evidence obtained could be far more incriminating than the results of a polygraph.

The best way to beat surveillance: innocence!

2 things.

1 -- If s.o. has suspicions (and we know she is right) you are lost no matter what. Get a new s.o., or at least exit the current situation. Texas is a no-fault divorce state, but beware of child support.

2 -- Confess and take the consequences.

If you have other thoughts about this situation, see number 1 above.

I disagree with Ck. I would assume you want to keep this SO because you are in search for a solution. Whatever you do decide to do and whatever the outcome is...Never admit the truth no matter what. SOs are like the police. They can have all the evidence in the world but what they really want is the confession. Never give the confession unless you want her to bring it up everytime you get in an argument for the rest of your life. Solution: Deny Deny Deny even if u fail polygraph always Deny

There is a reason why they are inadmissable in court...
The ex-FBI has to be a PI...hope he took pics of your better side! (lol) I think she's just trying to scare you...that's what women do.

Remember George on Seinfeld. His advise in dealing with a lie is "Its not a lie if you believe it"! Also the the old thumb tack in the shoe trick where you step on the tack just enough to cause a bit of pain which spoofs the results of the detector by setting up an involuntary response to every question.

So, about the thumb tack. How do you walk into the room with the tack under your foot?

Besides, just tell her to take her polygraph and shove it up her ass. If there is so little trust in the relationship a polygraph result (either way) doesn't change anything.
i do no the thumb tack under your big toe works...just apply a little pressure when you reply....just hope they dont make you take it barefooted...lol.
