I think Malcolm X had a point. If you reliably vote Democrat no matter what, they will just throw you a bone at welfare time.

However, if African Americans supported the Republicans on occasion, they could extract more free stuff from both parties.

Perhaps the Republicans would vote for higher welfare, greater housing subsidies, liquor store anti-proliferation laws, lower sentences for crack cocaine offenses, change three strike and you are out laws to 3 strikeouts with three at bat laws, (9 felony convictions before you go down the river) mandate lower college entrance standards, more higher education handouts, more handouts for the inner cities to waste, etc.
