I purchased a new computer and it came with DDR3 PC3-8500 memory. Can I safely replace the memory with DDR3 PC3-10600?

Yes, you can always go up (faster), just not down (slower). Years ago there were some issues doing that, but not any more.

Depends on if your motherboard supports that RAM. Just saying 'yes you can' is not a smart decision to make. Check with your motherboard's manufacturer on their website for compatible RAM and recommended type.

They have a free memory scanner that will scan your computer and tell you exactly what kind of RAM you can use. Putting faster RAM into your system will NOT make your computer faster, by the way. Unless the motherboard supports it, and you will most likely need to adjust the BIOS to change the timing on the RAM as well. But what you can use will be on the crucial website.
