Chicago Police Reveal Real Reason He Staged Attack
During a press conference on Thursday (February 21), the Superintendent of Police, Eddie Johnson, revealed the Empire actor was "dissatisfied with his salary," and took "drastic and illegal tactics to gain attention." Johnson added, the Empire actor "concocted a story" about an alleged hate crime that "took advantage of the pain and anger of racism to promote his career." ...
He additionally told reporters the 36-year-old actor was behind the threatening letter that he addressed to himself and sent to the Empire set prior to his staged attack. Johnson explained that after the letter —which contained racist and homophobic threats, as well as a white powder that was later determined to be aspirin — didn't get the attention Smollett was seeking, he decided to stage an attack.
