AFFH (Affirmative Furthering Fair Housing) is an initiative to use the power of the national government to create communities of a certain kind, each having what the federal government deems an appropriate mix of economic, racial, and ethnic diversity.
But late last night the House blocked funding for the initiative by a vote of 229-193.
If fully adopted, AFFH would seek to undermine local development controls, putting pressure on municipalities throughout America to abandon local zoning policies, re-engineer housing stock at local expense, and join regional consortia.
