and i would claim Germany 100 years ago was not a shithole. many people including my paternal side came from Germany. my last name is German. My mom's family came from Ireland. that makes me a Kraut/Mic hahhaaa.
the reason many Germans immigrated was due to the aristocratic class structure of the time. like England, it limited your opportunities by class of birth. that's why many Englanders left for opportunities in the new world. a place now known as the United States. you might have heard of it!
