Family Attorney Needed For Questions

Hi, I have a couple of questions I need to talk with an Family Attorney about. Please Pm me or email me @ shannon.shane30@yahoo.com

Thank you
I don't want to throw up roadblocks in your quest for legal advice, especially the thorny ones involved in the family law area. But, I would be surprised if you get any takers.

First of all, there is the matter of compensation. Most attorneys are not willing to risk their malpractice on uncompensated advice.

And just merely answering specific questions may subject an attorney to legal liability.

Finally (and you didn't mention this) if you are wanting to trade services, it is unethical to do so for an attorney. S/he is prevented from sleeping with clients under the Ethics Code, and the penalty for an attorney could easily be disbarment...not something most attorneys are willing to risk.

I would suggest you contact the State/city bar association where you live. Most will have a referral service where you get about a half hour with an attorney for a minimal referral fee. IMHO this is your best alternative.
Attorneys follow a code of ethics?

Of course they follow a code of ethics, it's just that it changes often to suit their needs or the situation. LOL!

Remember it's only illegal if you get caught & can't afford a good enough lawyer to get you off. - from "the anals of lawyer logic". (Yes the misspelling pun is intentional)

sorry lawyers I just couldn't resist taking the cheap shot.

A few years ago, Texas lawyers voted down such a rule, but there is currently a vote going on through February 17, 2011 regarding another version of the rule. Of course, as I have written here many times, I think it is a godawful idea for a provider and attorney to trade services.

charlestudor2005, I think you perhaps overstate a bit the concerns an attorney might have answering a few simple questions. I've been answering such questions from members in good standing (or reclining) in Hobby World for a long time (although I do not practice family law and would leave it to others more qualified to field those questions). I don't mind doing that, as long as the conversation is relatively brief. But if it takes multiple conversations or even an appearance in court, then sure, I think I should be compensated. Contrary to popular beliefs, lawyers weren't born with an American Express platinum card in their hand.

Hah SJ, I was hoping you'd stop by and correct them.

The lack thereof makes for family law in Texas to keep it real classy ;-)
