Best Neighborhoods?

I am looking to come visit your wonderful city and am really not interested in using hotels ( I like to rent out apartments) so I was wondering if you all (providers and hobbyists) could inform me on your favorite and nicest neighborhoods/areas to stay in?

If you're looking in DC, then the best neighborhoods to find rental properties would be:

Georgetown
Dupont Circle
Penn Quarters / Chinatown / Gallery Place
Capitol Hill

Iled in DC for 3 years now but fairly new at this; hotels are super expensive and finding a house depends on the place. I've learned being close to metro is always a good point so like everyone said Dupont Circle, DOwntown, Penn Quarters, Chinatown, Logan Circle, Capitol Hill, you can even go as far as Silver Spring as long as it's downtown...
