First of all, I really don't like Rick Sanchez. I think he's an opinionated ass who make a living asking rhetorical questions rather than the thoughtful, probing questions that should be asked. I don't think he's stupid, just lazy. It takes real work to run a news show that challenges the listeners. However, IMHO, Rick Sanchez tosses easy pitches which he then hits out of the park. It's not real news. And it's not really challenging.
However, I listened to the audio clip that got Rick Sanchez fired (on Youtube) by CNN. IMHO, RS got screwed by CNN. RS goes on a radio show and says (in his opinion) that Jon Stewart is a bigot. Apparently, he says that b/c Stewart regularly fries RS on the Daily Show. Stewart regularly makes RS out to be an idiot (not much of a stretch, IMHO).
Now, this is something that (apparently) RS takes personally. I think we all would. When someone takes what we believe to be our most worthwhile essence--our profession--and shitcans it in public, then we take it personally. And for whatever reason, RS believe JS to be a bigot. And he says so. Then he's fired.
Now, first of all, I think CNN took the most severe action first. Rarely is an employer going to terminate an employee without first giving the employee some lesser discipline first. Seems to me CNN could have accomplished what it needed to without terminating RS.
BTW, I regularly watch and enjoy the Daily Show.
