What are must-see cultural institutions in Indianapolis?

Good morning everyone

Later this Spring, I'll be visiting Indianapolis for the first time ever! I grew up on the East Coast, and I've always been curious about the wonders of the Midwest. I've visited Chicago and Milwaukee, and I figured the time is nigh for me to make my way to Indianapolis. I'm well aware of the famed Indy 500, which seems like such an exciting time. Though I'm not familiar with what else Indianapolis has to offer. I'm especially interested in great museums, galleries, and other cultural institutions, as well as awesome spots to dine!

I'd be truly grateful for any recommendations.

Thanks in advance,
~Lena

I will second that! Great field!
Thanks everyone! I'm putting together quite the itinerary for my upcoming visit based off of your suggestions.

Ooh, thank you! Going to the Indy motor speedway seems like lots of fun. Though, I did look up the schedule and there won't be any official Indy 500 events when I'm visiting.

I'm so excited that my first visit to Indianapolis is just around the corner! I'm staying Downtown. I'll definitely swing through the Slippery Noodle for a drink or two—in addition to a rich history, there also seems to be a stellar selection of Blues musicians that perform there.

Probably more like 90 min.
