Sounds like it’s about time someone was held accountable for arming children, especially mentally unstable children.

The parents went on the lam right after the charges dropped,

Hope they find ‘em.

The parents were arrested around 1:30 AM, Michigan time hiding out in a Detroit.

Why charged?

Seems they had some knowledge of the kid's instability prior to the tragedy.

Michigan law says that a person may be charged with "Involuntary Manslaughter" through neglectful absence of action (or some similar language). Then they exhibited what LE calls "behavior demonstrating knowledge of guilt" by avoiding arrest. Wether or not the gun was secured (locked up) is not cleare, but the kid did have access to it.

That is why they have been charged . . .and that is why bail is set for half a million bucks each.

All these things will be tried in court and a jury will figure out what is actually the case.

They both face four counts of Involuntary Manslaughter with maximum penalties of $7,500 for each count and up to 15 years for each count. Comes out to thirty thousand each and perhaps sixty years each if the sentences are to be served consecutively.

The lid may be sentenced to life without parole.

I may have some of that wrong, so any solid corrections are welcomed.

Thanks! I hadn’t read the news of their capture.

Good explanation. And good for the State of Michigan.

Probably pure politics. Are the parents guilty of something? Likely they screwed up royally, but this is Michigan and election year is next year (which is only a month away). Maybe they can scare parents into not buying guns because their offspring might be bat shit crazy. Right now, we don't know enough to make an informed decision. It is all speculation.

Another conspiracy maybe?

Because there supply the Minor child with the gun and bullets. There encourage the child behavior. But some of the school officials also knew about it and did not kick him out. His parents are nut cases. I pretty sure will get less than murder.

I watched the probation hearing this morning. The Defense made a much better case for lower bond than the state did for higher.

And it is rather suspect when the state claims you are on the lamb when in fact your attorneys had been trying to set up a time to surrender to said authorities

are the charges proper? the parents were obviously negligent with the respect to their child who was having mental issues. giving him a gun when they knew he was having problems at school? thats bad parenting.

I think there are more cvharges of Unintentional Manslaughter coming for some of the school district administrators from Michigan's negligent lack of action clause. They should have looked in that backpack during the meeting with the parents. The parents should have given permission. Lacking that permission, the school "Resource Officer" who is LE could do it anyway . . .but he was not present. A principal or AP was not present either.

The fan is still spinning and the Ex-lLax hasn't kicked in yet.

Like the Rittenhouse case, this will all play out in court. Look for several criminal trials. a blizzard of civil lawsuits and a divorce before it is all done with, say in five years or so.

School has culpability here too, imho.

The kid should not be allowed to walk free again.

The parents were in hiding. That doesn't really imply their willingness to surrender, despite what their lawyer said.

Unless you believe lawyers aren't trying to protect their clients.

The max sentencing possible for the kid and the parents could amount to life without parole for all thee if served consecutively on the charges. The parents face 15 years x4 (or 60 yers) and they are both in their early 40s.

The kid could get 4 consecutive life sentences. But I don't think he will do hard time in prison.

But he seems to be so deeply head-fucked, that he might get the Hinkley treatment and get put away in a mental hospital instead of prison.
