Those that have been fortunate to travel the world realize what a diverse country America is. Most countries have one ethnic group. In America, it is as if you took a sampling of people from each of these different countries, and set them down in America. Foreigners who travel here sometimes mention America is many countries in one. Others mention you have a whole continent here.
But is it truly a melting pot ? Possibly in the workplace. Other than that, we still seem to be a separated mixture of cultures and hoods......even after a few generations have passed.
And the white majority and founders of the country continue to fade away. America will look much different in another 200 years. Will the white majority give up its position and status gracefully ?
It did not happen easily in the Reconstruction period after the Civil War. Positive attempts were made in the 1870s. "40 acres and a mule" only lasted a few years.The struggle and fear of each other, losing power and control set that back another 100 years. Another comment about America: "America always does the right thing, after trying everything else."
Some things to consider as we head into the Christmas season, besides being wound up in temporary or current events, no matter your political leanings.
