Topic Control by Post Originator

While most topics maintain some sort of "civility" there are times when a Moderator needs to step in to either warn or lock a topic that gets reduced down to flaming of individuals, etc.

A few years ago I was on a board that passed limited control to the post's originator to remove comments that they felt were off topic or flaming. There was a downside in that it served to drive a deeper wedge between members who were already at each others throats, but overall it did provide some relief to the Major Mods.

Just a thought.

I can see this working well in the Political Forum.

It would also allow a starter of a thread to control what viewpoints are posted in his/her thread. He/She may wish to pull those posts he/she does not agree with, slanting the debate in his/her favor. Now you are talking censorship. I can see this type of thing becoming an even larger hassle for the Mods.

No, let the Staff handle such matters. That is what we are here for.
