Local places to eat/shop

I will be in NYC Friday through Monday. What is a wonderful local place to eat at. I am not 100% sure yet of where i will be staying. Just some great ideas on local places as i love to try non chain places when i visit a city. Any advice would be greatly appreciated and if there is a sticky somewhere I apologize in advance for not researching.

Alas, New York will empty your wallet faster than it will replenish it. I think the Nomad hotel is lovely, but it will gobble up your walking-around money. If you're in midtown, the Campbell Apartment in Grand Central is charming. When are you arriving?
