ECCIE seems to be very, very slow responding every Friday morning. I have noticed this for about a month now. Is this possibly when backups are being run? If so, have you looked at your usage patterns and determined that this is the lightest traffic period? Somehow I doubt that Friday mornings are the slowest. My guess is that Sundays would be very light.
In any event, something scheduled is going on Friday mornings that is bogging down the entire system.
If not, you may have a beef to pick with your hosting company.
