Is it even possible in the hobby? Given the amount of time needed to gain the necessary trust and then learn which limits are approachable?

Either way, once you get to that point, its an adrenaline junkie's dream....

Hi Elizabeth!

Incidentally, I had the pleasure of sitting in a class taught by Sir C over the weekend and it was amazing (you had mentioned that you greatly enjoyed the Forked Tongue, so I thought this might interest you). She's the most intense sadist I've ever seen work. She thinks nothing of, for example, asphyxiating a sub with a plastic bag repeatedly or having the sub lay on the floor in a pushup position, then tying their legs and neck together. When their arms give out, they choke themselves. She also did a lot of demos involving noose play. This to me is edge play. It's high risk, high intensity play that is questionable at best, even when the players are very experienced. Like so much in our very politically incorrect world of power exchange, I think trying to justify or rationalize high risk play is pointless. To bastardize the quote, conjecture about edge play is about as useful as dancing about architecture. People do it because they like it and it surely is fun to watch.

I find two things to be true about pro vs lifestyle BDSM: the first is that people are much more risk averse in the pro world, and the second is the submissive clients tend to be much less experienced. Hence, instances of EP in P4P are rare, though not unheard of.

Edge play can take on many different faces.

I had a friend who had been badly abused in a recent relationship, so the simple act of putting her in restraints was a HUGE deal to her. Believe it or not, I honestly believe it was therapeutic for her, despite the fact that she was only restrained for about 15 minutes. For the first time in a number of years, she actually trusted a man again.

For others including myself, the task of learning hard and soft limits can be a bit time consuming. Then the whole issue of knowing for sure you can trust the person!

A few years back I was dating gal that had a similar sexual appetite as mine. Edge play was THE way we played! The relationship ended in a disaster for other reasons (read: her drug habits), but she recently made contact and asked to start seeing me again...to quote her "..the way you would be rough and push me against the wall and kiss me".

Very tempting because I know we'd jump in exactly where we left off. Damn the drugs in her life....

Not my think in the BDSM community, and insane in the hobby.

As my knowledge and understanding of a sub increases, possibilities can (and do) open up.

While I've been tempted multiple time, but there are several problems. It does leave evidence that is VERY hard to explain away. And it is requiring of a high degree of trust that is very hard to achieving in a purely commercial encounter.

Edge play either was is for the highly experienced, and very well educated practitioner. I have been seriously involved in the Leather and BDSM scene for 20 years. Many of the things I have done over the years have been extremely rewarding in several ways. Both Leather and BDSM is very beautiful to see and experience.

I suggest finding a mentor to help you achieve the goals you desire until you have the experience and confidence to do it on your own. You just have to be aware of the possible risks.

I'm actually a little surprised this topic didn't have more responses. I have never tried any type of edge play at all. When I was younger, blood made me faint (literally) and well, it's just not "there" for me.

BUT, I find with age comes a heightened sense of depravity and I'm open to more "ideas" then I was before. Not that edge play is "depraved".

LOL. I always thought edge play meant taking someone to the edge of orgasm and then backing off. Repeatedly. Guess I have lots to learn.

The edge play mentioned here holds no interest for me. Too scary and uncomfortable.

This is a little bit, "edgier". LOL.
