New to Manhattan and need help with the ropes

Hey everyone I am planning a first time mini vacation to the big apple in February. Are there any sites that are specifically used for this area? Places to dine? Places to stay and others to avoid? Any feedback would help me tremendously and any acquaintances in the area would be nice to make.
