Where not to stay

Are there any locations I shouldn't stay in Austin during my visit ?

The arboretum is a good safe place to stay.

The Arboretum and Domain areas (near 183 and Loop1 (Mopac)) are good places.
Some providers stay downtown, but traffic and parking are not always easy.

Do not stay in Williamson County, for LE reasons. Which is in far North Austin and Northwest Austin.
Most of Austin is in Travis County.

I second this. Also, avoid the "no-tels" along IH-35 in the US-183 and US-290 sections.

Horribly honest and sounding racist, but anywhere east of I35 is iffy. Especially north of the river to about 290/183.

I'll second Arboretum & Domain. But you pay a "premium" for the much better surroundings.

715 East 8th Street. The rooms are very expensive and the food is terrible...
