how soon before all the kids in the us are a bunch of coddled pussies, with zero backbone.

can someone please explain how this parent (of a football player) can think of a scenario where winning a game (not even only football) even trying NOT to score, not running back punts, etc is bullying and should be apologized for or even criminalized?? what has the us come to??? when in the us did we have to start apologizing for working hard, having better skills and god forbid, winning????

I've been a die hard football mom for 13 yrs. My son is now a freshman playing college ball (proud mom moment). I have never considered a blowout a form of bullying. Whether they were getting their asses beat or they were doing the ass beating. If those boys had been acting unsportmanslike and taunting the opposing team, that would be different. I have heard no indication of that occuring. Man the fuck up and take your loss. It hurts, I know, but it builds character. A sign of a true athlete.

I don't know what is more ridiculous, this story or the University of Oregon head football coach running his mouth off, and getting fined for it today, about Washington State's head coach Mike Leach (former Texas Tech coach) not laying down in the 4th quarter and throwing pass plays every down when they were down 70 something to 30 something...WTF...A college head coach wanting another college head coach to teach his players to be quitters!!

Maybe the UIL needs to implement a rule that if a parent wants a blowout game to be stopped, that parent needs to strip to mandatory white undergarments and sprint from one end of the field to the other with a big huge white flag...I guarantee no one would ever step up due to the embarrassment their child would suffer...I feel sorry for the player if his parent's name gets leaked out for filing this suit !

Believe it or not a lot of people predicted bullshit stuff like this situation in Aledo would happen when children started only getting 'participation awards' for playing competitive sports and not keeping score in the games. They didn't want young kids feeling the pressure of winning and losing in youth sports.

I feel sorry for the kid whose parent pulled this bullshit ! How do you think he's gonna feel going to school everyday ??
Oh... I can only imagine the personal and political profile for the complaining mom/dad of that poor kid.

I bet he wants a do-over (parent wise).

I agree with the coach of the team that got whipped that it wasn't bullying.

But that being said, I do think it's unsportsman like just to run up the score for the sake of running up the score. (And I'm not saying that was done here. I don't have enough information to make a judgment one way or another.) When one team is so much better than the other team, it places with winning coach and players in a tough position. I remember the year that SMU came back from the death penalty, they played Notre Dame, then coached by Lou Holtz. Holtz made sure that his team didn't run up the score and either a put return or an interception was deliberately run out of bounds in the 4th quarter when there was no SMU player between the man with the ball and the goal line.

I wouldn't call Holtz a pussy. He was a gentleman. (I wonder if he's still alive?). And I tell this story just to point out that the winning coach's concern shouldn't be laughed away. You want to win. You want your team to play well. But there is no sense in just running up the score because you can (which it rather sounds like Mike Leach was doing). The issue of when you start running the ball up the middle with your second, third, or fourth string players can be debated. But no one should have their starting 11 in the game in the 4th quarter when they are up by several dozen throwing the ball. Period.

TTH, Mike Leach was not running up the score, his team was on the losing end of the blowout. The winning coach for Oregon criticized Leach for playing out the whole 4th quarter with passes instead of run plays to make the mercy killing Oregon was laying on Leach's team go by faster...This fucking Oregon coach must be related to Mya Michelle because I have never heard of a head coach Marketing himself like this...What's wrong with Leach wanting his team to use a blow out 4th quarter to learn something or improve or how about, NOT QUITTING !!

Absolutely, Lou Holtz is still alive. You can see him every Saturday night on ESPN breaking down and analyzing the big game highlights along with the other 2 dudes, forget their names.

ManSlut, I misunderstood. Hard to fault a team for fighting to the end, even if it's a vain effort. I stand corrected.

Good to hear old Lou is alive and well. I haven't paid much attention to college football (much less pro) in many years. After the Southwest Conference broke up, I just didn't care to. Those were some great days and great coaches back then. Now all the teams play too far from home to drive to games, and play teams you know little to nothing about. You didn't see the players from the other schools in high school ball. You don't know any alumnae from the far off schools to shoot the shit with during the week. Just not the same.
The Aledo coach put his reserves in...what are you gonna do, tell them to not play hard? Maybe they should consider a "mercy" rule...set a point limit. If one team is ahead at any time by 50 points, why keep playing? The losing team surely doesn't want to be there. They had that rule in youth hockey and nobody's character was damaged because of it.
Seeing it on the news, Aledo put in the reserves for his reserves (3rd string). Jeez..
Those parents should get a grip.
