portuguese Fado :-)

I have been listening to these sounds for a long time now , and i really do love Portugal a lot.....:-) Not only have i fallen for a man here, but also for the music and the lifestyle.

I will open up a "Fado" thread here and post music in it, hope you like it :-). Oh and some of you might think Fado has nothing to do with sex, but it has: A traditional fado once was the music of the prostitutes, escorts, courtesans, mistresses and the way they expressed themselves. It has then also become fashionable but the roots are in the so called "demi monde" .

I don`t know much about the history of that song unfortunately, but i will ask and post then. I just think that guy has an amazing voice.

This is Raquel Tavares, she performs in the "Mesa do Frades" in the ALfama. Not like in a concert, no , because when she has fun doing so, she will sing there. No one of these Fado singers gets paid for doing that. I saw her sometimes at 3 am in the morning singing. Its amazing lifestyle.

She is yery young too.

The song is called "Ardinita" its about a boy that delivers papers and whose mother tells him how to behave properly because she is worried and he tells her that she shall not worry , and of course he does not smoke and drink. But at the same time he knows he lies to his mother to not make her worried....Fado is something amazing.

They never hang out around here anymore but I think atlcomedy and PJ are lovers of this type of music. I seem to recall those two having a conversation on Fado or maybe it was Fabio..........

Yes once your tongue manages to speak the names in correct portuguese it is splendid. Unfortunately i could not - yet - find an english article relating to Fado as music of courtesans or sexworkers, i will try to do so and post here. I am glad you enjoyed :-)

It's funny that that's what 'Fado' means, there's a very popular Irish pub in Miami called Fado. Maybe it means different things in the different languages.
