Getting my hustle on

I need some advise from some of you folks in here.

I am new to town, I have a great job with a high salary. But I want to take it to the next level. I want to do something on the side to supplement my income.

I want to get into investing but I don't have a lot to put into it.

What do you all think. It seems like lots of you guys on here are doing very well
Without knowing the details of your particular situation, it would be hard to give any meaningful advice.

What are your goals?
What is your time horizon?
What is your risk tolerance?
How much money do you have to invest?

These are questions any financial adviser will ask.

From reading your post I gather you are new to investing? If where you work offers a 401K plan, that's a great place to start. And having a good salary will give you a leg up in achieving your goals.

Disclaimer: I am not a financial adviser. I don't play one on TV and I don't stay at Holiday Inns. So take my advice for what its worth.

So you say that you have a high salary but don't have a lot to put into investing? So then what is your high salary being used for? If you're already spreading it thin without extra to save, you're starting off on the wrong foot.
Consider doing your own "self directed" IRA portfolio, IE. do your own due diligence and research using good sources and pick your own mutual funds to invest in. Investment brokers and advisers charge fees and commissions and very very often DO NOT have you in their best interest.

That's what I did. I chose 4 or 5 good mutual funds with enough diversification, IE. small, medium, large cap, value and growth. versus 10 or 12 mutual funds. I think good advice is keep it simple.

Of course there is a whole different category of super smart (or not so smart) investors who invest in stocks, alternative investments, etc. I was never in that league.

I am hearing more and more that an index fund is a good investment. I am hearing more and more that actively managed funds don't beat the returns of a good index fund and your paying substantially higher fees with actively managed funds. So you loose!!!

A wise tip is get to know some smart older and wiser men who invest their money and ask them "what is the biggest mistake you ever made investing?" You will probably get some invaluable information. Learn from other peoples mistakes.

You might also consider not going down this road of using Hookers.

This is my two cents. Please use my opinion as only a single reference and food for thought. Good luck!!!
I might add. If I am not mistaken the first thing to do is utilize your company's 401K plan.

I meant to say, I am hearing more and more that MANY actively managed funds don't beat the returns of a good index fund. Some do. My bad.

I have said enough.

LOL! I think both statements have merit. You don't want to spend every penny you make but at the same time you have to enjoy life.

You just have to find the right balance.
