True story: I went to see a show by the Who in Newark. Joan-fucking-Jett....whom I despise as a talentless fuck...was supposed to open. And I was bummed, cuz I didn't wanna put up with that.

At the last minute, it was announced that Joan couldn't make it. And that Tal was stepping in to take her place. Whew! THAT is someone who deserves to open for Pete....and to play with Jeff, my fav of all time.

If you wanna see more of Jeff and Tal...look for a film of them performing at Ronnie Scott's in London. Great show!

(now it's time for all the Joan-lovers to start bashing poor ol' Roo. Yeah...talentless fuck. "I Love Rock and Roll" has to be the most simplistic, dumbass "Rock" song ever)

Most people don't know that tune.."Brush With the Blues"...as it was a later one of his. But I have many, many times put people onto that tune as one of the finest solos he ever did. The kind that makes us poor guitar-player-wannabe's realize that we are completely hopeless.

Btw...that's Vinnie Colaiuta on drums...of Zappa fame...

I think Tal's brother might have played some with Jeff too. He was in her band when I saw her.

Advice for you my former ASPD friend is don't lead a statement with "True story". Most know the "meaning" of the words that follow.

Here's a clip that is emblematic of Jeff's career. He fights the system to get his message out there, while Jimmy Page laughs through it all and rakes in the big bucks. But he did sell his soul to the devil LOL.

it was a staged performance for the movie "Blowup" but it's Beck to a T. Jeffo didn't do too bad for his efforts, most celebrity sites list Beck as worth between 20-25 million. plenty of green for him to tinker with his hotrod collection.

as Page tells it, the story of his use of a violin bow on his guitar is directly due to Beck. while they were in the Yardbirds, they'd take turns doing solos to see who could out-do the other. according to Page, Beck used a Strat strung with piano wire and some wild tuning and just destroyed Page's solo. Beck of course was noted for using a whammy bar to get all kinds of distortion and this with the guitar strung with piano wire produced an incredible solo. so Page is sitting around later trying to figure out something to best Beck's solo and he was having a conversation about it with David McCallum Sr., (yeah David McCallum of "Man from U.N.C.LE. fame's dad) who was a very talented violinist who Page knew from his session work.

per Page, McCallum Sr casually mentioned off the top of his head .. "why not use a violin bow?" and gave him one of his on the spot. and thus "Dazed and Confused" was born.

the song actually was from the Yardbirds of course ..

interesting interview with Beck. he's very hands-on with cars, with his kind of money he could just pay someone to restore and work on them but Beck was basically a self taught car mechanic and restorer. in this first part 1 i find it interesting that he tried to buy the 32 Ford coupe used in "American Graffiti". interesting. woulda been cool if he could have gotten ahold of it. he does of course own a replica.
