Went to see Avatar in 3d. Saw it at Tinseltown in Pflugerville and they had the option to see it in Real D 3d or CINEMARK-XD for a couple of dollars more. Went ahead and splurged for the Cinemark XD on extra large screen. 3d glasses were included with the admission price of $14.00.
My understanding is that XD is the cinemark equivalent to IMAX and there is actually some kind of legal dispute going on.

Wow the picture and sound was awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. It wasn't like a traditional 3d movie where things are popping out of the screen but more of adding depth to it and making you feel like you stepped in the movie.

I haven't seen it on a regular 2d but I would certainly recommend seeing it in 3d to get the full effect. Also not sure how much better the XD is to the Real 3d screen.

Anyone else seen it in 3d and/or 2d?

I saw it in the REAL D. They give you these sunglasses that are like the old Ray-Ban Wayfayers, so they are comfortable and you have full field vision.

The movie was pretty good, reminded me of Aliens 2 as far as typical Cameron quality--high on action, low on plot, but the visual effects and the 3D rendering was awesome. It was like being on a drug. It was very surreal and I found my self reaching out to touch things. I am not just talking about the explosions and such, just looking at a pencil on a desk in full depth and tactile illusion was fascinating. I wonder what the first person that saw a film projected back in the 1800's felt? This sure seems to set a new standard for movie theater experiences.

I can't wait to see an intense plot in this format. Maybe Julie Taymor will do her next Shakespeare in this format. Can you imagine titus in this?

Heck, the new Sherlock Holmes would have been awesome in this format.

I saw it in IMAX. Just to demonstrate how immersed I was, I could swear I felt one of the flecks of light touch my cheek. Awesome!

I'm curious how it will be on blue-ray (hope they have a 3D BD). Looking forward to finding out...
I seen the movies as well 3D in Pflugerville, it was great! I actually jumped a few times, and could feel myself ducking my head so the leafs didnt hit me, lol.
I saw it in 3d. It was really good. A lot better than I expected it to be.
