Quesetion about using iPhone for hobby phone?

Has anyone tried using a prepaid generic phone SIM card in the iPhone in order to enable basic phone capability and use it as a hobby phone? Was wondering if this would work and would eliminate tracing to the day-to-day phone. If anyone has successfully done this, would you care to share your insight and experiences? Seems it woiuld be easier to hide a SIM card over a whole phone as well as being a lot easier to explain off to the SO if found (assuming it doesn't leave other "traces" on the iPhone).

Yes. I have done this very thing. I pulled the SIM card out of another AT&T flip phone that had a voice only plan, and dropped it into my iPhone 3GS. Worked perfectly, and even showed the different number on caller ID.

Remember that the standard SIM cards will not work if you are using an iPhone4. The iPhone4 uses the new smaller micro-SIM cards, so the standard SIM card will not fit.
Ahhh, most excellent info. Thanks dogsmack! Off to find that pre-paid phone and grab the simcard.
