What I like about Texas

I am posting this in several of the Texas forums. If you are a native, I am sure you will appreciate it. If you are among those that " were not born here, but got here as fast as you could" You might see a few things of interest.

How many of the things described have you experienced? I was surprised at how many were part of my life.

2. The Long Horns
3. Good ole Willie Nelson
4. Big Tex
5. And San Antonio, thats were I was born.

Everytime I listen to that song, my mind goes to most of those places as I was growing up experiencing them. There was no mention of absolutely the most beautiful women though. Damn we are lucky!

remember visiting my grandparents and their fridge was always stocked with Dr. Pepper.

Dr Pepper is a soft drink marketed as having a unique flavor. The drink was created in the 1880s by Charles Alderton of Waco, Texas and first served around 1885.

Thanks Lemontrees for posting that. I was fortunate to be born and raised in Dallas and will never leave. That Gary P. Nunn song takes me back to the 70's when I would see him Jerry Jeff Walker, the Lost Gonzo Band, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Waylon, Willie, Michael Murphey, B.W. Stevenson, David Allen Cole etc.

We rush up and down the highways everyday. We go to shopping malls and fast food restaurants. We need to pull our kids away from the tv's and ipods, throw them in the car and show them this diverse state. From Padre Island to Palo Duro Canyon Canyon...from Caddo Lake in East Texas to the Guadalupe mountains in the West. We have natural caverns, dinosaur tracks, and the hill country. Create some memories and a sense of pride.
My friends think I am really strange because I do not want to "travel", go to Europe or Hawaii. With so much in our home state, whyever would I want to leave when I have so much here I have yet to see?

After trying for the better part of 25 years to get back here, I keep telling everyone that mentions some other place to go, " I never left anything there." My big footies are firmly REplanted in Texas soil, and never want to leave again. This is HOME. And Home is where the heart is.

The best thing about Texas, Home!
The video did not include the large statue of Sam Houston or an oil derek spouting Texas Tea.

I take my son's scout troop to all the great landscapes of Texas and allow them to pitch a tent and get upclose and personal with the sights, sounds, textures and beauty.

From Caddo Lake to the Davis Mountains, Marfa to Palo Dura and to the coastline. These city boys grow up more mature when there are no electronics, no climate control and no walls to fence them in. Give them room to explore and encounter nature, then they will appreciate what we have. We share tales of pioneers, pirates, American Indians, legends and scoundrels and they understand better why we fight for our freedom instead of thinking it is an entitlement and that it cost nothing to maintain.

My ancestors came to Texas in the 1830's and we still own the original homestead. So, if and when it is time for Texas to succeed from the Union, my family and friends will understand our heritage and will know why we fight for our freedom and our Texas homestead.

One more thought, should there not be a Whataburger University on Corpus Christi?
