Texas PUC

Leave it to a government agency to come up with a system where......when people need an essential service the most......it will cost the most.....sometimes 500% more
You opened the EXACT same thread in another forum. Stop.

This is not the welcome wagon where you are allowed one post. If you don't like it, why did you click on both threads ? Different forums have different users.

Honestly there is no need to post the same thing in multiple forums. It is considered spamming and is generally not allowed.

As far as your topic Texas has long been a deregulated state as far as electricity is concerned. The PUC makes sure that general abuses are not allowed. When an issue such as the extreme cold happens then it is usually up to the state government to take care of emergencies. Governor Abbott has already stated that customers who were hit by huge electrical bills due to the variable rate would be taken care of.

You can buy a fixed rate or a variable rate plan.
If you buy a variable rate plan, you take the risk of changing rates.

Maybe the retirees should just buy variable rate annuities. No need to buy fixed rate.
If the rate goes down, and they get less income, they can go to the government.

Nanny state fast approaching.
