Free HIV Testing

For anyone who is interested...

The Dallas County Health Department has a "bloodmobile"-type van that goes around from location to location.

To find out where it is located, call (214) 500-2968, after 9:00 am.

They test for syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and the HIV antibody.
They take both a blood sample (3 tubes of it) and a urine sample.

The urine sample is used for the testing of syph, gon, and chlam. They send it off to a lab so you have to wait about 2 weeks for the results. You are given a code number which you call in for the results. While you are there, they will give you free anti-biotics for the aforementioned diseases.

The blood sample is used for hiv testing. They test it right there in the van, and you can know the results in as little as 30 minutes.

There is a registered nurse there to counsel you and answer any questions you may have. They will ask you some questions of a very personal nature, similar to what they ask you when you donate blood.

The testing is listed as "anonymous" meaning that should you test positive for anything, they don't put you on a government "most wanted" list. They do take contact info so that if further testing or help is needed, they can get you the resources and meds that you need.

The testing is free. If, you can not get to a van location, they do have a permanent facility near downtown Dallas, at 2377 N. Stemmons. If you go to that location, there is a $20 charge, but that is still cheaper than the $150 asked by Planned Parenthood of North Texas.

Syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia are all curable, and if caught early enough, can be eradicated before serious damage is done to the body.

As of the date of this posting, HIV is not curable, but is treatable, allowing infected persons to live long healthy lives. One can always pray for a cure.

Knowledge is power. Get yourself tested. The life you safe may be your own (and everyone else on the board)

Thank you for your attention

GB - Thanks for the info. I'm certain that is info that many here will appreciate.

Bannedito,
I may be incorrect, but my interpretation of the forum rules are that openly speculating or referencing someones health status (including std's) is not allowed. Providing information on free health services available to the public is not against any forum rule.

Werd, this just a PSA, not a guess at someone's status.

Kudos for this, I advise everyone to stay on top of their testing. Keep the hobby safe for all!
