Who makes the best King Cake?
I am sending someone a King Cake out of state and would like peoples opinion about who has the best. I know that Tastee Donuts has the old
mckenzie's bakery king cakes, has anyone had one? Do they taste like the orginal? McKenzie's was my favorite but I haven't tasted the ones for Tastee yet.
How about Gambino's? If you look on their website they have several cool packages with beads and doubloons plus they ship themselves.
And lets not forget Randazzo's
So what is the best way to go? Let me know what you think boys and girls.
Haven't had a Tastee/McKenzie's one in a couple of years. They were close to the same but just a bit different. The was the only king cake I had most of my childhood through early 20's.
If you're sending one out of town I'd go with Randazzo's. My favorite. Manny Randazzo's (on N. Arnoult? between Severn and Causeway between 17th St/Morning Call and W. Esplanade) sells out daily, usually by early afternoon if not morning. Gambino's is good, but not one I'd send out of town.
RANDAZZO'S is the best. They now have a really small one just for one person at the Slidell store. Paul's pastry in Picayune is good also with a large selection of fillings.
Really sucks if your a diabetic
Haydel's on Jefferson Hwy.
I have been buying Rouses king cakes lately for meetings and the people are saying it is as good or better than a Randazzos. I dont know if Rouses is making them or if they have a contracted bakery.
Yes, Haydel's on Jefferson Hwy, between Ochsner and Huey Long Bridge...they also have a Cajun Kringle... it's like a king cake but better... has praline and pecan icing on top... can't get enough of that sweet thing...LOL
I can't get enough of Rouse's cinnamon king cakes. Warm them up in the microwave and enjoy any time of day (but REALLY good for breakfast).
Add me to the Rouse's list! Whole Foods has a very good king cake too.
Thanks guys, I went with Randazzo's but plan on gettting a taste of the all. : )
they have king cake cupcakes at a bakery on St Charles next door to Avenue Pub...awesome!
Meches in Lafayette. Hands down.
Your mileage may vary.
In my experience, good ones in and around Baton Rouge are from Ambrosia Bakery, Meche's, and Oh Heavenly Donut.
Cake Palace used to make great ones, but they've since been bought out by Gambino's and the ones Gambino's makes tend to be overly dry and stale IMHO.
Used to be cake palace (already mentioned), not sure who it is now.
I would have to say heavenly donut On highland right off I 10
