Sending out spam is the least trouble you could have found yourself in.

Just change your password and do it often.

Email can get hacked through no fault of your own, but usually it is because you have used a weak password.

Use a strong password and you will seldom have a problem. A strong password is 8 or more characters in length, and includes 3 of the 4 following type of characters, Uppercase, Lowercase, Numbers, Symbols.

This is happening more often these days, so we must all be more vigilent in choosing our passwords.

duke, great image!!!!

but, 20 years?!?!?!?!
i had to choose my first password in 1976!!!

another technique i just read about in a PC Pitstop newsletter [http://www.pcpitstop.com great site btw]...
known number (3+ digits) + root word w/ substitutions optional + known number (3+ digits)
you could even split the word in two with some numbers.
the longer the passcode [not just a single word], the longer it will take a bot to find it.

I recommend two unrelated words with mixed case and a 3 integer string somewhere inline.
