Thanksgiving Day Plans

Any special plans for Thanksgiving?

Last year my family hosted soldiers who either had no family or the family was too far away. Most of the soldiers only had a 3 day pass. It was a great experience to share with these men and women.

This year every person who was with us last year is now on tour of duty overseas. We were really looking forward to a repeat but we are proud to have shared with those who selfishly serve our country.

I received a surprise email from one of the soldiers who was with us last year. He asked if we would entertain the idea of having a new group of men and women in our home for Thanksgiving. We jumped at the opportunity!

We will have 4 men from Ft. Sill and 2 men and 2 women from Ft. Hood.
It truly is a day to give thanks!

I am going to the lake with my family and friends. This year we are going to have a deep fried turkey so I am excited to see how it turns out. And a course to eat lots of pecan pie and stuffing.

I am spending it at my in-laws, because my mom is having Thanksgiving with the guy she is banging.

Hanging with family is a good thing, but can also be a drag. If you are looking for fun the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving, you should all head out to Cowboys Honky Tonk and Bar in Arlington, for the best night of the year to party, this place is huge, has a live band, draws a crowd from 18 to 80 and you should see some of the fine young ladies that hang out there.

I wouldn't mind having a couple of attractive BAM'S over for the holiday myself but that's another personal issue.

Going to an Irish Bar in McKinney on Wed to celebrate a friends B-Day.

Use twice as much butter as the injection marinade calls for. If it calls for none...and a stick!

I also throw in a couple extra teaspoons of cayenne.

My kids wanted me to cook this year. So the grandparents were demoted. I'm doing a butter and basil rubbed roasted turkey stuffed with mushroom, onion, garlic and celery along sourdough/mushroom stuffing and jiblet gravy. A bone-in smoked ham. Green bean casserole. Jalapeno corn casserole. twice baked potatoes. A mixed green salad with marinated artichokes, green olives and red peppers with a drizzle each of olive oil and italian dressin. pumpkin pie, pumpkin pie cheesecake, apple pie, blueberry pie and lots of ice cream and whipped topping. for appetizers I'll have the standard veggie tray, but I'm sure the sausage stuffed mushrooms and bacon wrapped water chestnuts won't hurt anyone's feelings. And of course, I'll make my grandmothers (rest her soul) homemade bread.

So what this means to me is....I'm gonna be to damn tired to eat!

Last year it started because my niece's husband was stationed in Wichita Falls, 80 miles from my place, and he had only a two day pass before leaving for Afghanistan. My niece was already there so we invited them to our place. They asked if they could bring a few friends who had no where to go for the holiday.

That's how we started what I hope will continue to be tradition! My niece's husband is now on his fourth tour and he helped set it up again this year. I will certainly ask him if he would help set it up for next year.

I will have two roasters going with the birds. That way the guys and gals will have those great after turkey day sandwiches to take back with them!

A very small gesture on my part though in the grand scheme of things.

It's very admirable of those who reach out to others and share themselves on this day.

I'm having an early meal with family and then I'm going to the game. I'm very excited to do both!

I was lucky enough to be invited last year to a Thanksgiving Potluck, I took trifle. I am hosting one this year, since I am still here, with about 20, mostly solo military people, coming to my place. There is a base not far from where I live. We have turkey, ham, stuffing, dressing, green beans, yams, cranberry sauce, taters, chocolate pecan pie, pumpkin pie, chocolate mousse pie, cheesecake, and whatever else people bring. Gawd help me.. this is the first time me or either two of my roommates will have cooked the bird ourselves! How I miss my gramma's house this time of year! Do you KNOW how hard it is to find a TURKEY in Korea! - or an OVEN?? *UGH*...

Anyone going to make plates of leftovers and pass them out to the homeless??
