As far as getting crucified for writing a review, I have not had that experience. Read some other views, or some of the sample reviews or review guidelines to get a better idea of what makes an acceptable review. And don't count on the fact that you are on here and have written a few reviews to mean you are verified. That doesn't mean anything to many providers.

The main mistake I see people make --- and frankly, it's a common mistake on any internet message board --- is that people want to dive right in, instead of taking a look around first. Eccie.net provides an unbelievable amount of content (an almost overwhelming amount, frankly), but you have to be willing to read.
Take the original post, for example. I don't have any extensive experience in hobbying, but just by reading this message board I already know that many providers aren't going to see me without references, how to go about getting references, what's the best way to compensate for a lack of references, what's the best screening service to get (it's p411 in Houston, and it's not even close), and a lot of other information besides that.
I get that we all lead busy lives, and reading a lot of crap to get the answers we want isn't everyone's cup of tea, but this really is a pretty common question.
I just typed in "how do I get references"
and this link popped up:

Just follow some of the relevant threads, and the same answers we're providing here are all over the place.
Which doesn't mean I begrudge the original poster asking his question. I don't. But it is an indication of what the issue probably was with his review, and why he was crucified. He didn't read enough to know what his audience was looking for, or what the reception might be if he didn't provide it.
