SANTA FE, N.M. —The New Mexico State Supreme court ruled that the former University of New Mexico president accused of running an online prostitution ring won’t be prosecuted.
Authorities arrested Chris Garcia, the former president of UNM, in 2011. They alleged Garcia and others operated the ring through a website called "Southwest Companions," and that Garcia used the name "Burque Pops."
A judge later said Garcia did not do anything illegal because a website is not a house of prostitution. Prosecutors appealed, but the petition was denied Tuesday by the state’s highest court.
