I wanted to publicly thank JustaGuyinMS for hanging out with me last Thursday evening in Biloxi. Had a good time talking about The Hobby, other hobbies and just generally shooting the shit. And the man can out-eat me on Buffalo Wings.
Thanks for making time to hang out JaG, you are a fun guy to talk to!
You know we use to have a meet & greet now and then where hobbyest and providers got together and shot the bull, sure miss them,
Well hell, let's get one together & do it!
I'm going to be back on the coast the last weekend in April so I propose having a get-together on that Saturday April 30th somewhere on the coast.
Even organize it under another hobby name like "Jimi Hendrix on the Coast Appreciation Day" or something like that. That covers different ages and genders.
Ooooooooooooo! I'd love to see those handsome faces behind the funny handles!
And to think I coulda been in the middle of a man sammich!
I'm all for it. Sounds like fun!
I eat so many wings that the idea of any hobbying is out.
I need to remind everyone about this guideline from ECCIE:
#30 - ECCIE does not, in any way, sponsor or represent social events, meet and greets, or similar activities. On occasion, events may be announced here by our members, however, ECCIE is not associated with or responsible for such events. We are not involved with any related aspects, such as guest selection, screening, or hosting. Should members of our volunteer staff choose to participate in such an event, it should be understood that their personal involvement is of their own choice and responsibility, and in no way connected to their duties here on staff. If you are the host of one of these events, we will allow for ONE "announcement" post to inform the membership, which will be immediately locked to prevent further public discussions regarding the event.
Read it carefully; you will see that it can be done, and there can even be an renouncement post. Now, here are some comments from experience:
1. Members (male and female) are a bit nervous about public events, so it needs to be carefully arranged - not obvious about who we are.
2. Ladies have to be discouraged from wearing over-the-top clothes - don't laugh, it has happened.
3. Weekdays will draw more guys than weekends - many hobbyists are married and find it difficult to get away on weekends. Late afternoon to early evening is best so guys can come from work.
4. Every attendee has to be screened - verified ladies and PA guys are the safest.
5. One person need to manage the invitations - make an announcement and have people PM that person about interest.
6. Only reveal the location a day or so before the M&G - general location (which city) can be announced well in advance.
7. Someone(s) needs to scout out a location - it should be such that our group can be isolated from the rest of the customers or arranged to be on a day when the bar is not slammed with people.
8. NO SOLICITING - by either guys or ladies. If you want to get laid, make arrangements before the event, NOT at the event.
9. No hustling the bartender or wait staff - at one event, several ladies were trying to be the bartender, also an attractive lady, into the john. It became pretty obvious to the bartender that we were a "lifestyle" group.
That's all I can think of right now. Putting on one of these things isn't easy. Making it safe is even harder. One person needs to be in control and make the final decisions on location and who attends. A M&G can be a lot of fun - I've been to ones in TX, DC, NOLA, and all the ones we have had in MS - Coast, Hattiesburg, and Jackson. But they can be a disaster if not done with abundant caution.
Hope that helps.
JaG
PS: Anyone else who has experience with these things, please add to my list.
I've only been to 2 events, the first I was alone and green so I didn't mingle as much. The 2nd was a blast and now, you can't shut me up!
Well, unless you............... YOU know! Lol
Just a thought, it should be a tight knit little group. I can't imagine trying to wrangle a crowd and be low key.
Hey silverstar! Good to see you post!
Thank you Nicolet! Good to see you too.
If we can set something up here on the Coast, I will definitely be there. Anywhere further than Hattiesburg might be a bit too much of a drive for me at the moment. Still, it sounds like a lot of fun!
I was just wondering if there was such a thing where hobbyist meet with providers so we could have a good time .
It would be fun to do this a Jackson surrounding area also.
We had one in Jackson years ago , would love to have another one
