im planning to visit that way end of September.... which cities are best??
killeen or College Station?

Acting purely out of self interest, I would say College Station is the better city 
That said, I haven't spent a lot of time there since the coronavirus rolled through. You'll want to reach out to someone local to see how things currently are.
