Who has the absolute best fried shrimp in town? (or on the lake) ...

Man, I gave up trying to find the best fried shrimp and the like. You usually end up getting prepackaged frozen shrimp that is overcooked and lacks any real flavor or meat. Standard operations and most, if not all, seafood restaurants. You might be better off finding a Super HeB with a seafood display or head out to your local Fiesta and start experimenting with different types of coatings to fry it.

All bets are off on the gulf coast though, since they usually bring it in that day. Then again, with the "small" disturbance out there it might be wise to wait a long while before consuming seafood from the gulf.

Great question....

Pacific Star (2 locations, one off 183N north of Anderson Mill, and one on 35N north of 620, close to 79) has good fried shrimp if you like a cornmeal batter.. I had a shrimp po boy there today. (really good gumbo also)

Salt Grass has good grilled shrimp and amazingly good fried coconut shrimp.

Quality Seafood has pretty good fried shrimp with also.. they don't use cornmeal, its more like flour/egg/seasoning.

I am not a fan of Joes Crab Shak, but I was raised on the Florida coast, so I am spoiled on good seafood.
Since Gill's disappeared several years back, haven't had any luck finding a replacement locally.

My favorite place is not in Austin but nearby: Sea Island Shrimp House in San Antonio. They used to have a location near Fry's. Great fish and shrimp...worth the drive.

Quality Seafood is good. Kick ass fried oysters too, especially now since their getting some cold water varieties from Newfoundland.
Might be a hard one to believe, but the jumbo fried shrimp at Manuel's is seriously rocking'. Not frozen, and they do not skimp on the portion.

I can't eat fried shrimp. I would much rather boil/steam it, and peel it right before I eat it.

Same here. I pretty much quit eating anything fried. That being said, Quality Seafood and Pacific Star do have great food at reasonable prices. When I'm looking to get laid, I take her to Perla's.

I prefer my shrimp steamed...
so I just go to HEB, get a couple of pounds of nice size shrimp and have them steam them for me with some old bay seasoning while I shop.

Quality Seafood is the best in Austin, IMO.

The problem with HEB is most of their stuff is previously frozen. Not all, but most.

Jardin Carona. Get the Shrimp Fajitas. Couple that with their Frozen topped off Margarita and you're in for some good feelings.
