somg of the day

With all the bull shit going round, I thought I would offer something different. Please no bashing, no stomping or personal attacks. Just sit back and enjoy the music, turn up the volume and enjoy. I intend to post a new song each day. These may not be your favorite tunes, but sit back and listen.

Mark Knopfler...a true genius.

Great thread idea, Big Bob. Love the ground rules...if you click on a link, then turn it up and listen to the whole thing and see how you feel about it at the end.

Here is Rush's La Villa Strangiato, considered one of the most technically challenging songs in rock music (by their own admission, they have a difficult time playing it correctly!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQPHsONF_tE

Amazingly, Rush is composed of just 3 guys: a bassist/keyboards/vocalist, a lead guitar, and a drummer.

This has to be one of the greatest rock ballads ever written and never fails to illicit an emotional response. I don't think it can be played loud enough. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cG53fiXwGg&NR=1
This song has been stuck in my head all weekend......Lmao

It was played on one of my all time favorite movies Vegas Vacation with Chevy Chase. I love that movie and that this song.

.... I have been starting my day with this song. Seems very appropriate for this board about now.

One of the most "soulful" versions or this song I have ever heard.

...and please do not turn this into a "political" thread, this was the only "full" version of thew song I could find!!

Thanks, enjoy and hope it starts your day off well too!!

EB,

True words about Knopfler. An absolutely amazing musician! I love the Double Alchemy Live Discs, as they are better than average at capturing the real music yet with the live performance energy.

Here's another fave of mine from Dire Straits http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1y6_z8RaOXU

Makes me stop and think about life, love and leaves me with a calm feeling....

esteve - Somehow when you wrote the words "Rock Ballad" Scorpions came to mind. Fantastic song.

Lisa - Great song, brings back memories of seeing the Beach Boys perform annually at the old Jack Murphy Stadium after Padres games.

One of my favorites for the memories of the movie as well:
