Spokeo.com - too much personal info available

I got the message below from a trusted source. I searched for my name and found a lot of information, much of it incorrect, that I really don't want out there. I followed the directions and removed my information form their database.

It really annoys me that information like income and home value can be posted without permission.

I provide this FYI, but after seeing what all is on this site, I think everyone should have their information removed.

A friend notified me of this site that makes public all sorts of info about you without your permission It's called Spokeo.com that's a new online phone book w/personal information: Everything from pics you've posted on FB your approx credit score, home value, income, age, etc. You can remove yourself for free by first searching for yourself on their site to find the URL of your page in the address bar then click on the Privacy button on the bottom of their page to remove yourself. I have removed myself.

Another one is PIPL
I have known about this one for a little while.

JAG is correct the site gathers info on the www from other sites like FB and creates your profile.

Usually a lot of the info will be incorrect but in some cases there is enough correct info listed to cause concern( rez addys/pics/relatives names).

Everyone should search themselves in this site and people they know to get a feel for how much these sites expose.
Did you see this page? http://www.spokeo.com/friends

give them access to your accounts?

That whole site is suspect to me....

To stop Spokeo from publicly allowing your profile to be viewable to the world you have to submit using your email address. I just create a fake email and send them my temporary email.

I use them all the time for screening on guys who don't have refs. I always ask for name and emplyment anyway, but while waiting I run them through this site and one other that I will keep to myself...not just anyone can access it. Spokeo is helpful to simply show the social networks an email is listed with. I have ran several through with nothing at all come up, so it's not an exact science. Intelius and mylife.com do the same things, and you can do a complete background check through any number of services or work from home employees.
Ha I am married with kids and we live in a mailbox in a below average neighborhood that is also worth over a million dollars . Too funny
