Does Donald Trump realize that he just screwed up?

Or is he telling the exact truth and his followers don't understand?

Donald Trump has accused Ted Cruz of being born outside the United States. This is true. Legal experts have discussed the meaning of the phrase "natural born citizen", this is where you insert the joke about being born C section. Anyway, Trump is concluding that Cruz is actually a Canadian before he became an American. Follow? So now Trump is calling Cruz an anchor baby, an anchor baby for Canada. This is important legally. An anchor baby is a baby of a different nationality that is born in a host country and automatically becomes a citizen of that country.

From this attacks Trump is saying that Cruz is a different nationality than Canadian or he couldn't be an anchor baby. If Cruz is not a nature born Canadian, what is he? His father was from Cuba but had fled so he's not Cuban. Cruz's mother was a United States citizen and the only possible nationality Cruz can be (from Donald Trump's description) is a US citizen. So Donald Trump himself has made the determination. You have to be natural born somewhere. Did Trump lie when he made the original statement or was it just politics? Trump did say that he didn't think that Cruz was Canadian, so he knew he was an American?

Trump may be a great businessman but he is not a lawyer.

Thought that I'd include these for WTF since only looks at the pictures.

Imagine a pregnant woman comes to the US from El Salvador. She gives birth to a son in El Paso. We say that he is an anchor baby (In the US) because his mother is El Salvadorian. If his mother was a US citizen then he is not anchor baby. To call someone an anchor baby is to say your parent(s) were not of that country. To reiterate, if Cruz is a anchor baby as Trump said then he must be something other than a Canadian and the only option is the US (through his mother).

Trump just destroyed his own argument.
Well of course Ted is a citizen if the CRBA, or Form FS-240 was filled out in a timely manor... https://travel.state.gov/content/pas...rds/birth.html

Birth of U.S. Citizens Abroad

A child born abroad to a U.S. citizen parent or parents may acquire U.S. citizenship at birth if certain statutory requirements are met. The child’s parents should contact the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate to apply for a Consular Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States of America (CRBA) to document that the child is a U.S. citizen. If the U.S. embassy or consulate determines that the child acquired U.S. citizenship at birth, a consular officer will approve the CRBA application and the Department of State will issue a CRBA, also called a Form FS-240, in the child’s name.

According to U.S. law, a CRBA is proof of U.S. citizenship and may be used to obtain a U.S. passport and register for school, among other purposes.

The child’s parents may choose to apply for a U.S. passport for the child at the same time that they apply for a CRBA. Parents may also choose to apply only for a U.S. passport for the child. Like a CRBA, a full validity, unexpired U.S. passport is proof of U.S. citizenship.

Parents of a child born abroad to a U.S. citizen or citizens should apply for a CRBA and/or a U.S. passport for the child as soon as possible. Failure to promptly document a child who meets the statutory requirements for acquiring U.S. citizenship at birth may cause problems for the parents and the child when attempting to establish the child’s U.S. citizenship and eligibility for the rights and benefits of U.S. citizenship, including entry into the United States. By law, U.S. citizens, including dual nationals, must use a U.S. passport to enter and leave the United States.
Some scholars say you have to be born in the US to be a president or vice president. If Molson gets up a super PAC then we should worry.

Cruz is a good man, I'll accept him if Canada doesn't.
