2 Canadian **Tourists** Shot In Mexico
Fri Jan 02 2009

Two Canadian tourists are in stable condition in hospital after they were injured in a shooting at a nightclub in the Mexican tourist destination of Cabo San Lucas.

Baja California state police investigator Omar Barajas said the gunmen fled after the shooting early Tuesday at Mermaid's Table Dance bar.
No arrests have been made.

The Mexican newspaper Tribunate de Los Cabos identified the two victims as Donguyen Ninhtrung, 26, and Michel Brenhan Spowe, 28, both from Vancouver.

The paper says the younger of the two victims suffered a gunshot wound to the neck, while the other Canadian was struck in the chest and the leg.

The report says a security guard and an American man who was sitting at the same table were also injured, and that the gunman fled the club shortly after the shooting.

Officials with the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ottawa said consular officials in Mexico were in contact with Mexican authorities, the hospital and the victims' families.

They wouldn't reveal any details on the victims in order to protect their privacy.

Canadians shot last week in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico are 'No strangers to Vancouver Police'
Mon Jan 5, 2009

Mexico City, January 5th, 2009. Two Canadian men in their twenties shot last week inside Cabo San Lucas' Mermaids Topless Strip Club are 'No strangers to Police' according to research by Chad Skelton for The Vancouver Sun.

The men were identified by Canadian Foreign affairs in Ottawa and the Canadian Embassy in Mexico City as Brendhan Stowe, 28, and Nguyen Minh Trung Do, 26.

The Vancouver Sun interviewed Vancouver's Integrated Gang Task Force's Sgt. Shinder Kirk who said "the two men, during the course of their travels, they have been checked [by police] in the company of people who are believed to be involved in criminal lifestyles"."They are no strangers to police in the Lower Mainland."

Baja California Sur State Attorney General's Office says Mr. Trung Do is a native from Vietnam and a Canadian resident for the last three years where he works as a Kick Boxing instructor and does not list an occupation for Mr. Stowe who, at first, identified himself to Mexican authorities as Michael Dawson.

According to court records investigated by The Vancouver Sun, neither Stowe nor Trung Do have significant criminal records in British Columbia, Canada. "Stowe was charged with assault in March 2000 but was acquitted. In January 2005, Stowe was charged with impaired driving and pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of driving without due care and attention, paying a $1,035 Canadian fine. Stowe has also gone to court dozens of times for unpaid parking tickets." No files were found for Mr. Trung Do.

This is another case of tourists in their twenties who travel like millionaires, said Yadira Covarrubias with the Attorney General's Office in the state capital of La Paz.

British Columbia property records, investigated by The Vancouver Sun, show Trung Do "owns a 2006 Land Rover Range Rover and a 2009 Mercedes-Benz B200. Stowe, meanwhile, owns a convertible 2004 Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG. Trung Do owns a condo in Port Moody with an assessed value of $422,000 Canadian and Stowe owns a North Vancouver condo valued at $507,000 Canadian."
