Why do bad things happen to good people?

Take the politics out of it.

If you have specific examples, share them. Whether you're religious, atheist or agnostic... whether you focus on the philosophy, theology or are a realist...

Why do bad things happen to good people?

Is it God's plan? Random chaos? A test? Senseless bits of entropy? The inhumanity of man?

Don’t try to rationalize your stance of the brutal rapes and murders at the hands of illegal aliens. That’s what you’re trying to do here Mr Gristle. You’re not very clever. There’s no rythme or reason why miscreants do things. But they prey on vulnerable, innocent people. Because they’re cowards.

This isn't about that convo, Bam. Respect the topic.

I have a friend with 3 beautiful kids who has inoperable cancer.

I know a woman who lost her husband and 2 sons in the same car accident.

How do we make sense of it? Was it punishment? Part of a plan? If you believe in God, do you see him testing his faithful like described in the Book of Job?

Is it random chaos? Free wills colliding? Is it senseless?

What examples do you have?

The natural state of the universe is chaos, civilization is only temporary.

Good friend got cancer right after HS, died.

Another car crash, head injury, no visible trauma, early 20s.

My oldest and most trusted friend, booze and bikes don't mix, early 40s.

After those, I don't question things like you ask.

It is what it is.

Fun is fun.

And done is done.

"Poor Otis dead and gone...

Left me hear to sing this song.

Pretty little girl with a red dress on.

Poor Otis dead and gone...."

Not taking sides, cause I have no idea what they may be.

It's not a sides things, Devo. Simple (but not) discussion about a complicated topic of how we make sense of things.

It's one that can be hard to rationalize and deal with for those who view God as good, omnipotent and just. Or who view the karmic spectrum as returning the energy that one puts out into the universe with suffering, pain, loss, etc.

Why do some of tbe worst things befall some of the best or most innocent people?

Do we have free will? Is it part of the creator's plan? Is it bad luck? Proof of evil? Karmic retribution?
