Former Clinton, Schumer Spokesman Blasts Senate Dems for Making Deal to Return Home

Much as I dislike Mitch McConnell, he has absolute mastery of the senate rules. Schumer folded like a cheap card trick.

Mitch is getting things done.

that said. I know only 2 senate majority leaders that have been known play hard ball tactics within the senate rules and getting things done.

in short, there have been few leaders who could bend the senate to their will.

and they are Lyndon Johnson and Mitch McConnell.

Harry Reid prolly should be included but I consider him to be an incompetent majority leader.

starting from the 1919 is when the senate party leadership system was in place, who else would be considered "master of the senate"?

Looks like Richard Russell is one of those guys who knew how to bend the senate to his will. He wasn't majority leader but certainly acted like one. He was President Pro Tempore at time of his death in 1971.

He has a building named after him, the Russell building aka SOB.

there is a push to rename the Russell building after McCain.
