Going to LA Friday. First time in the west coast. Doing some tourist things like Universal and Venice Beach but wondering if there are some underrated places to visit I'm or my friend and family aren't thinking of. Good restaurants or movie film locations? Always wanted to cruise the highway along the California coast.
Any suggestions would be cool!

Catalina island is really nice, mostly locals go there but you will not be disappointed, Jump on the TMZ stars tour, they know all the latest Hollywood gossip and locations to see, visit the observatory, take a drive up PCH starting at the Santa Monica pier
Restaurants are much better out West, you will have no problem finding a good place to eat at.

Catalina is very nice.
Not sure how much time you have, but if you're going up Highway 1, a trip to Hearst Castle is cool. Take a short detour into Solvang to see the cool Danish buildings, too.
