What's in a name?

Someone referred to me as a muse the other day and it got me to thinking.
(uh oh!)

What's the difference (in the hobbying community)) between escort, provider, courtesan and muse? Is there a difference or are we just calling a rose by another name?

Just curious!

To my mind; a muse inspires, a courtesan impresses, a provider provides, and escort simply doesn't apply unless you are single.

Regards,
Most, of course are a mixture of all or most of the terms.

But in their purest sense, to me they mean different things

Muse- Someone who inspires greatness. Often without seeming to do anything. May cross all levels of socity and class. Sex may be incidental to their true value

Courtesan- A Master Manipulator (not always a bad thing) LOL, I get visuals of a Black Widow Spider waiting in her den waiting for the males to be used then eaten when they are no longer wanted. A "Kept Woman" at least in the mans mind. Foolish males. Tend to be found towards higher socal & economic circles.

Provider- The Courtesan for the rest of us. Provide a much needed service to feel the needs of the more middle class. Often not a public figure, may tend to keep seperate their personal lives and may have other jobs and interests outside the hobby.

Escorts- The "True Professional". This is what they do. Most likely their only source of income. May tend to found more in the gray area between middle and upper class socal and economic circles. The traveling businessman would be thier favorite prey. May have a regular clientale of some size but seldom only one client for any real length of time.

A fun topic to discuss!!!

To my sons, I'm "Mommy Dearest"! LOL!

I've often wondered the same thing, Dragonfly! Being called a Courtesan, Escort, or Muse doesn't bother me at all, but being called a Provider, for some reason, does! Just sounds soooo impersonal to me! Maybe we come up with some other names for us ladies!

In my mind, it is all about the effort expended and overall set of several skills with the exception of the muse.

I agree totally with Bubba's definition of the muse. It has the least to do about sex (lovemaking is a different thing).

Among the others, it's primarily about semantics and where skill sets IN ADDITION to sexual ones provides the differentiations. I'd say the heirachy from bottom to top would be whore, escort, provider, courtesan, mistress, muse.
Well then I shall take the reference to muse as a compliment R4C!
Thank you

I agree with Lana maybe they should just call us all Ladies!? or better yet ...
nah, won't even go there!

Maybe we should have a contest for a new reference word for us Ladies! What do you think?
Very interesting topic !

For me, it's the connection you have with the provider. My perception is an escort goes beyond just BCD but provides a social companionship, which does not fit for those of us who have an SO/wife or funds for that 5-8 hour interaction.

Provider - Fills that physcial void or desire in one's life in a BCD type environment.

Courstesan(21st Century) - provider for the rich & famous.

Muse - one who inspires, but there are so many ways a woman can inspire a man BCD, filling that void or desire in a such a way you think about this person while you are at work or just driving about with an idea in your head (the one above your shoulders). In a manner of speaking, if she is more your ATF than just a provider, she becomes your secret mental companion whom you carry along with you all day long.

She knows what makes you tick sexually and what turns you on or off. She is one of your sexual mates without any of the social or legal commitment that comes along with your SO or wife. As long as we can keep our hobbying separate from our regular routine, we can be fulfilled in our lives since needs are met from two different worlds.

Sorry, I digress a little. I don't have the exact same connection with every provider, so yes they do fall into different categories.

And I'll hang around as long as you will let me.
And I never minded standing in the rain.
No, and you don't have to call me darlin', darlin'?
You never even call me.
Well i wonder why you don't call me.
Why don't you ever call me by my name.
