this is interesting.
The U.S. Navy initiated what is a believed to be the earliest attempt at using drones to hit targets. they were testing out some new technology which came out and it was television cameras.
In July 1944, they sent 4 TDR-1 drones (precurors to the reaper drones) to Bougainville. 3 didn't make it, but 1 did, it crashed into the Japanese gun position.
too bad it wasn't successful.
