John Wiley Price arrested by the FBI.

I don't know about you other Dallas natives that might be active members of this board, but I've heard crazy stories about John Wiley Price for decades. Seriously.

Anyone care to share your thoughts about this person?

Snarky kisses,
Elisabeth

All that cash in his safe was because of all the ladies no-AA policies in Dallas.

My opinion isn't positive, either.

When I was reading the Dallas Business Journal this afternoon and learned about the story of him being arrested, a little part of me was thinking, oh yes. He has constantly been a thorn in Dallas's side.

But there are a lot of people who are very supportive of the man.

He always seems to be able to slip through the cracks, as it were.

I do agree that he is a very corrupt person, in the extreme.

And Hercules, I have absolutely no doubt that he has played in these fields.

I'm going to commit a federal crime just so I can go to prison and make him my BITCH. Been dealing with his bullshit since I was a teenager. He's a race baiting punk! And he never did anything to help "his people". All he did was help himself. And now it is pretty obvious. The feds don't bring a case unless they have a case.

Price was probably feared more than disliked. He went after those that crossed him and they usually felt considerable discomfort.
I'm surprised it took so long to indict and arrest this slimeball, but the U.S Government often takes its time while slowly building a case.

If you've apparently never pulled down an income higher than the bottom-end of the six-figure range (other than a series of shady, slippery real estate deals, of course), it's a little hard to explain away a new Bentley, a high-end BMW coupe, and $230K locked away in a safe, isn't it?

One of the funniest John Wiley Price stories involves his apparent ignorance of what a black hole is. You probably remember from one of your science classes that the term refers to the phenomenon described in general relativity wherein the space-time continuum can become sufficiently deformed that nothing -- not even light -- can escape from a certain set of discrete points. So the suggestion that something has "disappeared into a black hole" is obviously not a racially motivated epithet.

But when encountering the "black hole" metaphor, which is in fact invoked fairly often in various contexts, Price immediately went into rabid conniption mode.

Here's the 2008 post from the "city hall blog" of The Dallas Morning News:

A special meeting about Dallas County traffic tickets turned tense and bizarre this afternoon.

County commissioners were discussing problems with the central collections office that is used to process traffic ticket payments and handle other paperwork normally done by the JP Courts.

Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said it seemed that central collections “has become a black hole” because paperwork reportedly has become lost in the office.

Commissioner John Wiley Price, who is black, interrupted him with a loud “Excuse me!” He then corrected his colleague, saying the office has become a “white hole.”
That prompted Judge Thomas Jones, who is black, to demand an apology from Mayfield for his racially insensitive analogy.

Mayfield shot back that it was a figure of speech and a science term. A black hole, according to Webster’s, is perhaps “the invisible remains of a collapsed star, with an intense gravitational field from which neither light nor matter can escape.”

Other county officials quickly interceded to break it up and get the meeting back on track. TV news cameras were rolling, after all.

(Note that a judge also embarrassed himself!)
