Call me crazy, but I don't think that American soldiers should be risking their lives protecting Afghani opium for sale in the United States.

First .. the "protection" was begun during the Carter years .. in exchange for the cooperation of the rural chiefs who depended upon the agricultural endeavor for the economic welfare. The U.S. taxpayers would have to replace the losses and attempt to replace the crops with a more acceptable commodity.



Secondly, it is "common" throughout the world for "offensive" agricultural activities to be "protected" .... because the government of that country will have to replace the economic benefits of continuing the "inappropriate" activity.

I'm not agreeing with the activity, just pointing out the reality.
