That comment is totally wrong. The legal age for sex in NZ is 16; but not in the business. Ladies have to be 18 or over to work in the industry.
If the quote was the OP's take on it he would be prosecuted in New Zealand.

Yes the 2003 law made it so that no one under the age of 18 can legally work for anyone else.. IE no one can make a profit off of someone under 18.
it also reads that no one can legally pay for any 'commercial sex act' from anyone under the age of 18.
Here is the kicker, while it is completely legal for someone over the age of 16 to work in the sex trade as what we would call a 'indy' girl, it is illegal for you to pay them for a commercial sex act.
There was a lot of litigation going on when I was there about what is actually considered a 'commercial sex act'. (Frontman667 would love it.. lol)
I believe they already made it law that foreign students can no longer work in the sex industry, and there was talk about extending that to make it so only legal citizens can partake in the industry.
(chances of that passing are very slim account of the revenue from tourist.)
The point I was trying to make is that it is best to stay to the clubs, brothels and parlors.
because you will see girls under the age of 18 legally working the streets in Auckland but none of them are worth the trouble that can and most likely will ensue.
I will also say that some of the guys there have punting down to a science, and I am counting down the days for my next trip.
