I will be visiting for the first time very soon. I have no idea what part of town I should stay and appreciate any feedback. I'm looking forward to making some new friends.

As with any city, there is a mix of good and bad places to stay. A popular area to stay is the Shallowford Rd area (sometimes called the Hamilton Mall area). It has a mix - there are some nice hotels and some really cheap, sleazy places. The mall is nearby, and there are a lot of restaurants on Gunbarrel Rd, across I-75 from where most of the hotels are.
Avoid the really cheap hotels on Lee Hwy and Bonny Oaks.
There are nice hotels in downtown Chattanooga, but they are pricey.
Hope you find a decent place to stay and enjoy yourself in Chattanooga.
