You, like so many of your ilk, are under the impression that the first amendment gives you the right to say whatever you want AND frees you from any backlash from said statements. WRONG. He enjoyed his free speech. He said what he said. He is now reaping the rewards of living in a civilized society where such things have become unacceptable.
