Topic of discussion this week: WHITE KNIGHTS

What makes a "white knight" a white knight (WK)? Is it the fact that he has an ATF and proclaims it? Or does it take more? If a gent acknowledges WK behavior, is he REALLY a WK?

I have some ideas about what I think, but want to solicit your ideas.

This is intended as a discussion topic, and I am throwing this out there to jump-start conversation. Thoughts?

the term is almost as overused and poorly defined as gfe.

if we're all standing around talking about a local restaurant, and the consensus is that their food sucks, but one guy says "i ate there once, and it tasted great." he is NOT a wk.

if everybody says he must've been there on a good day, their shit is terrible, and the one guy gets butthurt and allows as how they must all be stupid and obviously have a personal issue with the restaurant…..he's a wk.
JD I really like your analogy. But what if there was a general consensus, but nevertheless one guy was just so obnoxiously over the top singing the praises of the restaurant, so as to annoy and waste time of others to proclaim it?

A WK would normally be someone that will still champion a lady when all the available evidence would lead the normal gent to do otherwise. I have heard some call it "pussy blindness". The WK usually, but not always, has a more complicated relationship with the lady other than just a hobby one.

CK nailed it. I agree on all points.

I don't think there is anything wrong with being a cheerleader or having an ATF. We all like different things. I am not into GFE so a non GFE might be my all time favorite versus what other hobbyists like. A white knight, to me, is the guy that champions everything his ATF posts regardless if she is wrong/right/clueless etc. "Good for you" "good on you" etc. Even our ATF are off base and wrong from time to time. The white knight will compliment and support her in any and every situation.

Never heard of the term WK. But from reading y'all's comment, it is understandable about different strokes for different folks, but if a general consensus is no but
One person always stands up upon the rooftops, I can completely see that being a WK

You guys who have posted to this, I respect. Your opinions mean a lot to me, and I don't ENTIRELY disagree.

But . . . sometimes I feel some behavior qualifies, even if it does not buck the general consensus. For example, out of the clear blue sky, simply promoting a lady who needs no help whatsoever:

Interesting my topic did not spark any comment from the ladies.

And yes, it IS interesting that no ladies have chimed in. I'd like their input. Do they like having WKs? Do they hate it? I imagine a WK is a tough client to have as there are likely feelings of attachment by the WK.
Sometime what I perceive as WK behavior in a place like Dallas or Houston, I would not frown upon in this region.

Let me be clear, there is nothing wrong about occasional WK, other than it is annoying sometimes. Not against the rules in any way.

I can think of two examples.

First, this is pretty much WK in my opinion. Unneeded promotion, sticking a nose so far up a lady's bum it is annoying.

This, on the other hand, did not strike me as remotely close:

Region is not the only factor, but the specific forum as well.

yikes! glad my thread made the cut!

i agree…it's a fine line…after i photographed slave guinevere, i posted a thank you thread in sa coed with some pics. sure, i knew it would help her, and she's my friend, but i also did it to show my own work. wk? maybe…she was recently getting bashed in the saml by some whiney douchebag, and i made ONE post in her defense, but this is a person who is an actual friend.

i also agree the other two you linked are not good, especially since i think lola's photos are terrible. heh. (not a knock on her, just on her "photographer").

and, as the pistol thread shows, this shit brings out the worst of the board.

we need a neg/rep system!

I made a similar post a while back. http://www.eccie.net/showthread.php?t=709355

I could have been called a WK for "promoting" her. Truth was, I had not even met her yet, but really wanted to. Can you be a WK to someone you've never met? Lol.
john_deere's Avatar
yeah, i don't see how a "let's bring suzie sucksalot to our area" type thread would be wk. i guess if some guys who had a negative experience posted, and the op got cunty about it, that's different.

Well honestly I have been WKish on several occasions.

I have posted in behalf an of certain ECCIE member and BP provider here in West Texas and other regions of Texas. I have replied to inquiries about her in these areas. However I have no emotional ties to her and have never defended her for standing up her appointments. Which she has a history of doing.

I have also made a few Intel posts for another BP provider that I have never met but she has been on my radar for sometime. I have made these posts in other cities for my own behalf in hope that someone will take one for the team and do a review.

I have posted for a couple to VPs I have seen when someone is looking for a provider and I know she is in the area. Also there have been times that I have posted when one of these providers are going to a new city for the first time.

Most recently I promoted a visiting ECCIE VP.
